Carpets that become wet often lead to mildew or other kinds of fungi buildups, which can induce health problems for you and your family. So it is essential to deal with damp carpets. There are some ways of coping with these carpets you can do by yourself rather than paying an expensive company for it.

You can know that a carpet is wet by spotting if it contains moisture or not.

One of the significant ways to find out the moisture problems on a carpet is to find the foul odour coming out of the rug’s wet area. The other signs of finding out are the symptoms of allergies in family members or pets like sneezing, itching, skin rashes, runny nose and wheezing, and discolouration in various parts of the carpet. Also, the weather is a big factor in the condition of a carpet, heat and humidity affect carpets to expand and during cold weather, it contract. Therefore the cleaning and drying of the carpet also change for instance in hot cities like Dubai the way carpets are cleaned is entirely different to cities in Europe where it is cold.

Tips For Drying Wet Carpets

1. Moisture Removing:

The essential part of drying a wet carpet is to remove moisture or water from the carpet. A wet vacuum can easily remove it. They are very costly, and you can rent it if you want to use it once.

2. Baking Soda:

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate that helps in removing the moisture trapped in different parts of the carpet. Just sprinkle a significant amount of baking soda on the affected parts of the carpet and leave it for about 1-2 hours. You can enjoy freshly dried carpet.

3. Spreading Towels All Over The Wet Part Of The Carpet:

Another simple way of drying out your carpet is to lay towels on it and then walk back and forth until the towels absorb all the moisture or moisture from the carpet. Remove the wet towels then put some dry towels in the same area. Make sure that the carpet padding and the floor aren’t wet anymore.

4. Evaporating The Moisture:

You can use some hairdryers, fans, or a dehumidifier for drying out wet carpets. Keep their faces towards the damp area of the rug until they begin to dry out. You have to check again if the paddings or the floor underneath the carpets are dry or wet.

5. Removing Furniture From The Carpet:

You have to quickly remove the furniture from the wet carpet as the water can damage both the furniture and the flooring.

6. Lifting Your Carpet:

If you can quickly boost your carpet, then remove it from the damp area and place it on the chair like a tent and put it under a ceiling fan or a table fan for it dry.

7. Allowing Airflow In The Room:

You can open windows and doors for creating good airflow in the room for evaporating the moisture from the carpet. High powered fans are the best for evaporating moisture. Carpets have affect on the air quality of your home and can cause many health problems due to poor indoor air quality

8. Replacement Of Carpet Paddings:

Due to the moisture trapped inside your carpet, it damages the paddings of the carpet. You can replace it from preventing the central part of the carpet from becoming saturated with mould or fungi.
