If you make the mistake of leaving your keys inside of your home, it can be frustrating when you realise that you’re locked out of your house. Many people may not have a way of getting back inside if all of the doors and windows are locked. If you find yourself trying to get back into your home, there are a few important steps to take.

Locked Out of Your House

Call a Locksmith

One of the most effective and safe ways of getting back into your home is by calling a professional locksmith in the local area. By calling a South Perth locksmith, you can avoid having to cause damage to your windows or doors while attempting to get back into the property. The expert will use professional tools and equipment to safely get back into your house in minutes, making it easy to return to your schedule.

Remove the Doorknob

If you have the right tools or items available, you can access the house by removing the doorknob on the front or back door. This method is useful if the deadbolt is not in place when you’re locked out. Find a paperclip or bobby pin into the hole where the mounting screws are in place, which is often located on the side of the doorknob. Press the tool as far as possible into the hole and twist the door handle at the same time that the pressure is applied. After a few minutes, you should be able to remove the doorknob with ease. You’ll now need to remove the decorative plate, which will reveal the lockset. Use a screwdriver to pull back on the locking mechanism to unlock the door.

Use a Ladder

You can consider using a ladder to access the second-story of the home by climbing through the windows. Use extreme caution and ask a neighbour or friend to hold the ladder as you access the roof. Attempt to open a window that doesn’t have a screen to make it easier to climb into the building.

Look for a Spare Key

In many cases, homeowners forget that they’ve hidden a spare key outside of their house. Make it a point to look around for an extra key that may be hidden underneath a potted plant, under your welcome mat, or in a discrete place in the backyard.

Access the Dog Door

You may be able to get back into your home through the dog door if you’re small enough to get half of your body through the door. Once you get your head and arms in, you can attempt to unlock the door without having to get your entire body through the space.
