Lucy Shore, the creative designer at Swish, looks at how you can make the latest, bold Pantone® of the Year ‘Ultra Violet’ work across your window design:

“Strong purples certainly give a room a feeling of uniqueness, and this year’s colour of the year, ‘Ultra Violet’, sees the darker blues of 2017 move on to reveal a warmth and richness for 2018. As this shade evokes different responses from different people, there are a number of ways it can be interpreted and used too.

“For some, purple adds a feeling of energy, whereas, for others, their perception of purple is more luxurious and in some aspects quite regal. Wherever you fall on this spectrum, the shade gives you the freedom to use as much or as little colour as you want.

“Your choice of window dressing is a great place to start and again, there are plenty of options from sparkle to metallic that works perfectly but give very different finished looks.

“For a luxurious look that refuses to follow the rules, try teaming Ultra Violet curtains or walls in this strong shade with a striking antique brass pole for a look that shouts indulgence. The geometric Cruzar from Swish’s Design Studio range or the sleek Curzon from its Elements range, both have finials that will add depth, texture and luxe to your style.

“For those where the colour conjures feelings of the cosmos, adding sparkle is the only way to go.

“Here, opt for the Capella faceted finial from Swish’s Elements collection, Kwartz crystal-like finial or Gossamer smooth, crackled glass finial – both from the company’s mix-and-match Design Studio collection – all of which will help add shimmer to your overall look. Satin steel or chrome kits will offer a more contemporary edge but, for something a little different, try graphite to create a bold contrast or the antique brass versions for a rich, luxe look.”
