There’s just over a month left of 2018; it’s got me thinking about where interior design will go in the new year and what interior trends, we’ll see take over our homes in 2019. From retro lights in the bathroom to boldly patterned splashbacks in the kitchen, let’s take a look at what to expect.

Dark kitchens

From appliances to cupboards, this year we’ve seen dark kitchens taking over and there shows no signs of this slowing down in 2019. Instead of light coloured cabinets, we’ve seen interior designers embracing the dark side this year. If you like the sound of dark décor, it’s important to remember that dark tones can make a room feel smaller, so don’t go overboard with splashes of dark if your room is on the small side.

Floral Fabrics

Interior designers from Elle Décor predicted that in 2019 floral patterns are back, either covering our walls or splashed over our furnishings. Floral fabric can be hit or miss, if you get it wrong it can remind you of your grandparent’s furniture from the ‘70s, but if you get it right, it has the ability to change the dynamics and feel of the entire room. Don’t go overboard when incorporating floral fabrics; less is most definitely more when it comes to this trend! Source some pretty patterned cushions for your sofa or some bold curtains to lift your space.

Patterned Kitchens

2019 is going to be big on the interior kitchen front, with either dark colours taking over or patterns being at the forefront. Alongside the living room, the kitchen is one of the main rooms we entertain in, having bold patterns allows us to bring a sense of our personalities through. There’s been a rise of searches for patterned splashbacks, with it being one of the simplest ways to give your kitchen a refresh without the hefty price tag. In the new year, we’ll see a variety of patterns, meaning there’s a pattern for everyone, from marble to bold colours and scallop tiles to even unique artwork!

Statement Wall Art

Gone are the days of a boring and mundane interior, it’s all about making a statement and by adding wall art or artwork to your walls allows you to go bold. From neon signs to clusters of statement prints, there is something out there for everyone.

Luxurious Bathrooms

Usually the least thought about room, in the new year we’re going to see people putting more thought into their bathroom décor. A reflection from five-star and boutique hotels, interior designers, will be incorporating industrial style lights above mirrors, freestanding baths and glamorous taps. You can be as minimalist or as maximalist as you like, it’s not one size fits all but rather a reflection of your personality.

Metallic Toned Accents

Think copper taps, brass lights and pewter mirrors, metallics in the home have been a firm favourite for many years, in the new year we’re going to see them cropping up in every room of the home. If you can’t quite choose, the mix metal trend is still going strong! Mix and match cool and warm tones for the ultimate and unique twist. Retro lighting is the perfect way to channel this trend, whether you opt for a caged lighting, statement pendants or bare bulbs with a metallic holder, metals have the ability to add a sophisticated aesthetic and have a timeless sense to them.
