Bella Glenn, design expert at Benchmarx Kitchens comments on how you can make the most of the latest Pantone® Colour of the Year, ‘Classic Blue’:
“Blues can help to bring a sense of calm in the home, with this year’s colour of the year, ‘Classic Blue’, establishing the bold hue as a reliable, understated colour that represents simplicity at its finest.
“Moving away from the jewel tones of sapphire and powdery shades of baby blue, ‘Classic Blue’ is a rich, deep colour that is both tranquil and reassuring. The soothing qualities of the hue make it perfect to tie into interior schemes, creating a protective space in your home that provides a welcome, uplifting escape from the busy world outside.
“As a space where families often get together in the morning, or meet after a long day, the kitchen is the perfect space to bring in this colour. It can easily be introduced by painting walls, or bringing in a coloured splashback into the mix, which works particularly well paired with nudes such as Bone White, or even charcoal greys and slate.
“Maximising neutral kitchen units in this way will also allow you to inject colour across the rest of the room with accessories. Adding complimentary blue accents, for instance, will bring it all together – from glassware and tea towels strategically placed in the kitchen, through to cushion covers and throws in adjoining open-plan living areas.
“In fact, the versatility of ‘Classic Blue’ means it works well with lots of different shades, accents and textures. So, you can also experiment by adding brushed brass handles to cupboard frontages for a luxe look, bringing in blush pink for a softer effect, or matching with a white or pale wood worktop for a refreshed scandi feel.”
