Close to two thirds of people cook when in their properties in order to create the feeling of home, a new study has acknowledged.

The Life at Home report put together by furniture and household specialists IKEA also found that 30 per cent of respondents from a survey of 12,000 residents based in 11 cities around the world associate a certain food with their home.

As well as delving into cooking and the home, the study also brought up some interesting points about how a property’s kitchen and dining area are both become more technologically advanced.

For example, when people ate alone, many tended to connect with family and friends through video. Good Wi-Fi was also something that 23 per cent of those surveyed favoured over having an appropriate amount of space in their abode for inviting friends over.

With technology coming on leaps and bounds over the last decade, there are now many ways to improve your kitchen and dining area using technology. The following is a few ideas on how to remodel this part of your home effectively:

Wi-Fi enabled refrigerators

As we have already established, Wi-Fi is becoming increasingly important to people in the home. Wi-Fi enabled refrigerators, therefore, sound like a great investment for the kitchen.

These types of refrigerators are fairly simple to identify — they are the models which come complete with touchscreens on the door.

Access the touchscreen and you will be able to do everything from searching for recipes to playing music while you cook and even complete a food shop while you’re on the go. Of course, standard features like setting the temperature of your refrigerator also work through this touchscreen.

Wi-Fi coffee machines

It isn’t just about accessing the internet when it comes to kitchen appliances that come fitted with Wi-Fi — as this Smarter coffee machine showcased at CES 2015 proved.

Enjoying your morning brew has never been easier, as the coffee machine responds to your smartphone so that a cup of coffee is ready to be served by the time you’ve entered your kitchen.

That isn’t the most standout feature of the appliance though. Are you feeling tired due to a lack of sleep? Not to worry, program the coffee machine to work alongside your activity tracker and the appliance will automatically brew you a stronger cup of coffee to get over the issue of not getting enough shut-eye.

Slow cookers

Slow cookers are great in that they allow you to save time when making a meal — you simply prepare the food before leaving the house then receive peace of mind that a dish will be ready to serve soon after you return home.

The Belkin Crock-Pot WeMo Slow Cooker enhances the benefits of this kitchen appliance in so many ways. By teaming up with your smartphone, you’ll be able to adjust the temperature, alter the cooking time or even switch the slow cooker on and off wherever you are.

Last-minute plans or getting side-tracked when out and about never need to cause unnecessary stress again.
